The Innovative Thinker

The first characteristic of an inventor is that he is not happy with things as they are. He sees a different picture and his mind craves the manifestation of what he envisions. He does not want to remain in the old page tied to the same old thinking. He wants to move on. He wants to do something more. He is fully convinced of his ability to change the situation. The thoughts within him start haunting him. Like Edison put it, 'the spirit of invention possesses him.'. He cannot seem to get away from his thoughts. His mind summons him to rise above.

Innovative thinking is different. It cannot rest till it finds a better way, a better solution that doesn't accept things as they are. Such a mind cannot.

What happens when entrepreneurs become innovative in their thinking?

  1. Their capacity to find innovative solutions increase.
  2. They become more creative in their thinking.
  3. They become bold to challenge the status quo.
  4. They gain a desire to do things differently.
  5. There is a mental shift that takes place.
  6. They become innovative problem solvers.

Therefore it is extremely important for entrepreneurs to realize that if they wish to increase their chances of success, they must develop innovative thinking.

Most entrepreneurs attribute innovation to technology. While technological innovations do assist entrepreneurs, it is also important to take into account, the key human capital of the venture. Isn't it the entrepreneur himself or herself?

The mind of the entrepreneur must be developed and exercised in creative thinking, to discover creative solutions, that can be implemented cost-effectively. Small business entrepreneurs and start-ups have limited resources. If they depend too much on debt financing, just to keep abreast with technology, it will drain their cash flow pretty fast. While only accessing the technology that is necessary, they must seek to invest their minds in the creative fields they have chosen.
